Family Ministry Newsletter August, 2019

New Nursery Space

Our nursery has moved!  It is now in the Rainbow Room which is a larger space and it has carpet.  We inherited some toys and games from the preschool that rented from us last year, so there is lots of stuff for fun and play including an entire library!  Come check it out! Many thanks to all who helped move it and for help scrubbing and cleaning EVERYTHING! – Tim Bailey, Lisa Hughes, Robin Miller, Brynja Helgadottir, Linda Levine (and her granddaughter), Tom Zanoni, Amy Szen, and Rev. Dana.

New Church Year and New Programming

Last year we, as a church, explored the research on what children and youth need from UUCB, and with your help, we designed a whole new program.  This year, we make this program a reality!

One of the goals is to integrate the children and youth with the rest of the congregation to make deeper, meaningful connections with adults.  To this end, we ask all of our parents to volunteer as helpers in the classroom(s) of your choice two times per semester.  You do not have to be in charge of anything (unless you want to be).  You can volunteer to help with crafts, a service project, worship, regular classes, etc.  What a great way to get to know the other children/youth!  Please sign up here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TugQ7bhBPDkMQbMB6egBygYRukHpiRgcdV3GOoqao-4

THANK YOU for helping us to make this new program a success!

Community Nights

Part of our new programming to support parents and provide more social activities for everyone, we are hosting “Community Nights” once per month.  This will include a potluck (food!), social time for adults, and fun & games for the kids. At times we will also host guest speakers on topics of interest around parenting.  Our kickoff is a fun BBQ and party on Friday, Sept 27th at 6:00 pm.  Please bring a dessert or side dish to share and beverages.  We look forward to seeing you then!  Questions? Contact Rev Dana or Lisa Hughes.

We are back to two services this Sunday!  This service will be the traditional Water Communion ceremony with all ages included.  Welcome back!

K-5 Grades – “Summer of Service”

August 4 – Treat Bags for the Humane Society

How many of you have a dog as a pet? Did you get them at a shelter or other way? This summer we are exploring service to others. How can we help make the world a better place? One way is to make treats for dogs that have to stay in the Boulder Humane Shelter.

August 11 – Mini Care Packages for Homelessness

This summer we are exploring service to others. How can we help make the world a better place? One way is to help people who need a home. Sometimes you see them asking for money or help at the corner of a street. We are going to make ziploc bags of things they might need, such as a toothbrush, some socks, even a snack to keep them going. We invite people to carry these bags and give them to a homeless person when you see them.

At which are you better, giving or receiving? Some people love to give, but are less comfortable receiving from others. This class explores the dynamics of generosity, both giving and receiving.

August 11 – Forgiveness

This class focuses on forgiveness, of both others and oneself. A story demonstrates how forgiveness helps the individual who does the forgiving, at least as much as it helps the forgiven.
