It has been good to meet with the 40+ lay leaders of this congregation I have met with, one-on one (or two-on-one, with some co-chairs of teams & committees). These meetings have been incredibly illuminating to hear the wide variety of perspectives on this church from so many of you. By the time you read this, I will have completed these initial meetings, and will have begun preparing my report to the board on my findings, and the “Roadmap to Interim Ministry” based on them, with broad plans for my work during the next 2 years, and recommendations for the congregation’s work over this interim period. I will discuss these with the board at their planning retreat in early September. I’ll also offer an informational forum for the congregation, to share this work with as many as can attend. That session will follow the 2nd service on Sunday, Sept. 22nd, 12:30-1:30 PM. All are welcome.
Also, now that the initial meetings are wrapping up, my more regular schedule is becoming clearer. My regular office hours at the church will be on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 10AM – 4PM. I will almost always be in the church building during those hours; even on the rare sick day or blizzard day, I’ll generally be available by cell phone or email.
NOTE: I strongly recommend you use my cell phone – 720-495-1195 – to reach me, even during office hours. I usually can return calls from it within a couple hours max. As I won’t be in the church office every day, calls to my office phone may go a few days before being answered. I only ask that you not call on my Sabbath days (Mondays), nor late nights or early mornings (10PM – 9AM), except in cases of real emergency. And please leave either a voicemail, or a follow-up text msg., so I know who is calling and what it regards.
On most weeks my schedule will look like this:
Sunday: Church, evening work from home
Monday: OFF for Sabbath Day
Tuesday: Church Office Hours; evening meeting or work from home
Wednesday: Community Hours**; evening meeting or work from home
Thursday: Church Office Hours; evening meeting or work from home
Friday: work from home – sermon writing and worship prep
Saturday: varies – special events or “catch up” day
**Community Hours on most Wednesdays will be held away from church; from 1PM – 5PM (later by appointment), I will be available at a coffeeshop in a different area of our community to meet with congregants who drop by. See Mid-Week Messenger emails for specific dates and locations.
In faith, Eric
