Letter from Janen Wright to Our Congregation

It has been my privilege to work with your wonderful children and teens over the past four and a half years and I don’t want to leave without saying goodbye and thank you. I will always treasure this chapter of my life. All our youth at UUCB are beautiful and amazing- full of enthusiasm and life and possibility.  What a joy it was to get to know each one of them!

My job as the director of our R.E. program was also blessed by so many wonderful adults who accepted the calling to teach.  I agree with Parker Palmer in saying “the teacher is the curriculum.”  It isn’t for the faint of heart but I believe there is no more important position in the church than that of a teacher. The creativity, dedication and love for our kids from all of you who  taught inspired me every time I came to church.

We know that church is one of the last places that is truly multigenerational- where adults and kids share an experience and truly influence the lives of one another. It is so important that we offer the best people that  we have to bring up the next generation and pass on the torch of Unitarian Universalism. The teachers at UUCB hold this vision in their hearts and it is my prayer that growing strong UU youth will always be a priority and strength of this congregation.

Although I wish our time together could have been longer I know that all things must come to an end and, if I know anything about life, new adventures await each one of us. Working at this job has not only grounded me more in our  faith but also made me a better person. You are a very gracious congregation and I always felt your support and generosity of spirit. Thank you for all the kind words you have sent to me and I wish you all of the best in your personal lives and in fulfilling the mission of our church.  Blessing, Janen Wright
