Love Notes: A Message from Rev. Kelly March 30, 2017

Hi all –
The President of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), Rev. Peter Morales, resigned his position today.
Here is a UU World article that summarizes events that have occurred this week around hiring practices at the UUA.
Here is a letter from the UUA Leadership Council which I recommend you read. They say,“We will be examining our own hearts, listening humbly, and partnering with other leaders in our faith to find our way forward.”
I do believe that the problem of racism in our denomination resides not with one person but with the entire system. That is also true for our society at large.
The Black Lives of UU (BLUU) leaders have asked all churches across the country to devote our worship services on April 30 or May 7 to exploring racism and supremacy that may be alive in our congregations. We will do so on April 30.
Know that I am committed to looking critically at our own congregation – hiring practices, power, and cultural habits – for the ways racism, sexism, and supremacy live.
Most of all, remember that we have an amazing and powerful faith – one that offers us love, connection, freedom, and the opportunity to keep growing.
Love to you,
Rev. Kelly
