We honor members, friends, visitors

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with:  Chris & Tom Zanoni were worried for their son in Houston, who’s among those who had been vaccinated but who tested positive, with a breakthrough infection.  Laura is thankful her stepmom, Suzanne, is healing from her fall which broke her hip and wrist.  Babs Herrli asked for prayers for her former boss, Barb Day, now in Hospice.  Grieving for the people of Afghanistan, our American troops, and  the people of Haiti; each for  different reasons, but so serious, and important.   Continued concern about the illness surges caused by the Delta variant of COVID.  Peter Rousmaniere is concerned about his brother John, who is experiencing Alzheimer’s.  Blessings for teachers  and all school staff, as they returned to school last month.  Jim Gould is praying for increased love of my family.   Babs Herrli’s sister, Nancy had a tumor wrapped around her sciatic nerve.  Surgery was August 30th.  Tim Thorn’s (former member) father died the week of August 23rd.  Tom & Chris Zanoni shared that Jack, 16 year-old son/nephew of family friend has died, following a three year battle with Ewing’s sarcoma.  The Cole/Richards family were watching the news carefully, on 8/29, as they have family and friends in Houma, Meterie, and Baton Rouge, LA.

Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to:  Lillian Valenzuela was able to visit her new grandchild born July 1st – baby girl Indigo Vega!  Whitney Wheeless and Jim Rowe were happy for Eliot’s safe return to school at Case Western Univ. as a sophomore.  Grandparents, Mary & John Rowe, helped return him to school this year.  Allison Churnside shared that young daughter Eleanor is grateful for family.  Rev. David Schwartz expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from UUCB!  In turn, many messages, grateful that the Schwartz family of four, have arrived safely, and for our new, settled minister!  Reed Bailey & Carol Saunders celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary.  Reed says love endures.  Dianne Ewing thankful for being able to visit with family in WA state including a lovely visit with Mary Jean & Peter Ewing, former longtime members, who send their love to all UUCBers.  Jack Doggett, who provided a great post-lockdown service, said to Steve Todd and all the Worship Ministry team — thank you for your talents and commitment to our great worship over these 74 weeks.  You Rock!  Bill & Sharon Belew were happy to have Bill’s daughter, Kathleen, son-in-law Gerry, and grandson Oscar visiting them, in Boulder.  Now they’ve gone to Sweden to visit Sharon’s daughter and her family.  Susan & Tim Bailey’s wish is for “…our leaders to act boldly to turn around the destruction of our climate balance”.  With George Brandon & Mary Clough as they experienced the sadness, and joy of transferring the home they had built and loved; to a new family.  Sisters Cathy Edwards, Rebecca Carnarius, and Megan completed an RV tour of four western states, including three days in Yellowstone Park this summer.  Karen Churnside was glad that Toby (age 104) their runaway tortoise, has been found.  Becky Palmer’s granddaughter Estelle celebrated her first birthday last month.  Tim Bailey celebrated his 72nd birthday, and he and Susan their 50th wedding anniversary, in August.  Beth & Ed Schmahl welcomed a new granddaughter – Clara born August 21st to their daughter Katie in Maryland.

Marie Wingert (3) and her parents Seth and Kerri Wingert welcomed their baby Ruby Stella Wingert on August 16, 2021. She was 7lbs, 1oz and 19″ long. Her hobbies include eating, sleeping, and partying all night long.  Ruby was born on a Monday and the complete family came to the 8/22 service – seven days later!

Ingrid has three in school as of August.  Bryant (13 this month) is back at Manhattan Middle school, Anibal (5) now walks across the bridge to all day Kindergarten at Eisenhower Elementary, and Elizabeth (2) has a scholarship to attend an early learning pre-school, two half days (M-W) and one full day (F).

She LOVES it, in fact, last Saturday morning she put on her backpack, — ready to go, and very sad to be told “not today!”

Special Welcome to New Member:  Kim Kaputska was the first new member to receive Rev. David Schwartz’s signature on her certificate, and in the membership book!  We are so pleased you joined us, as we continue our churches journey forward.  The times are exciting.

Random Thoughts:  On Sunday afternoon, August 22, 2021 Fred and I were honored, and proud, to witness the Eagle Scout-Court of Honor, for Fox Martin and Miles Rowe, UUCB youth.  Hosted by proud, and well deserved parents, Beki & Thad Martin, Whitney Wheeless and Jim Rowe.  Fox’s proud grandparents are Jenny & Hilton Fitt-Peaster.  We have the pleasure of knowing both sets of Miles grandparents, as well as other relatives of both young men; many of whom were also in attendance .  The event was held in a park in Lyons, CO, followed by a picnic.  You may remember Fox’s Eagle service project was to improve the drainage ditch on the north side of our church building.  Miles’ project was building a new set of stairs for the Humane Society.  From the announcement: “Since 1912 more than two million Boy Scouts have earned the Eagle Scout award – Scouting’s highest rank and achievement. Eagle Scouts exemplify the virtues of service, leadership, and duty to God, using their training and influence to better their communities and the world.”  Congratulations Fox & Miles.

With Love.Care.Hugs,

Barb
