Membership Matters by Barb Richards

We honor members, friends, visitors

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with: Tessa and Alan Davis, as of March — Tessa was at the end of her “chemo”! She is so grateful for all the love and support, from UUCB, as she has made this journey. To Daphne Lewin, her daughter Wendy, and all of their family who we especially held in our hearts on March 6th; as they grieved the loss of Daphne’s son, David. In November, he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and sadly passed away on February 2nd. Here, his shared eulogy:

He was born in the United Kingdom in 1944 and grew up loving the outdoors. He fished by lakes and rivers and cycled around the country. He came to the U.S. when he was 19 to attend the University of Colorado here in Boulder. His parents, Daphne and Leonard, later immigrated to Boulder, and they joined our church in the late 1960’s. David retired in Oregon where he loved to hike and walk. Right up to his illness, he led hikes for the South Oregon Happy Trails. He leaves behind many dear friends from Colorado and Oregon. We celebrate his life and honor his memory.

Peg Goldberg has now moved to the Sunshine Nursing Center at Flatirons, she would appreciate calls. Jenny & Hilton Fitt-Peaster’s niece, Violet’s husband, Liam underwent an emergency appendectomy, last month and is recovering, at home, with them.

Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to: Rebekka Struik enjoyed a trip, February 13-27, with daughter, Lulu, and Lulu’s fiancé Joseph to New Zealand to visit her sister Gwen, and other family members. Nina Peterson is so grateful for the beauty of life! Tessa & Alan Davis shared with joy that daughter Laura is now formally engaged. Last month we shared in joy that Deborah Berioli has reached a milestone of one year since her emergency liver transplant! She provided a beautiful, bright and colorful cake which we enjoyed during coffee hour on March 7th. Last month we gave thanks to our Director of Faith Formation, Janen Wright, and her amazing team. They worked so hard to host almost 100 Middle-School age students, at UUCB for a weekend District-wide, Youth-Con. In a February Daily Camera, there was a headline which said, “Team Builds Fastest Microscope”! The team was led by CU physics professor Markus Raschke — husband of Eva, and father to their two sons who are so very active in our church. Karen Morgan and her awesome team of helpers — who provided us with an “all-ages” Spaghetti Dinner which was both, very tasty — and a fundraiser for UUCB. One of our newest members, Scharmin Dorostkar, honored us last month, on March 13th with food during coffee, to say a Happy Nowrus, “A New Day” Spring Equinox and Persian New Year. The food and the symbols, which she had carefully explained, provided us with a beautiful feast.

Special Welcome to New Members: We are so glad you have joined us. Eric Anderson & son Rowan, and Ameya Warde & son Killian, Scharmin Dorostkar,Cathy Edwards, Grace Ireland, Dickson Makori, Jo Manternach, Erty & Greta Seidohl, Carina Wolf, and Chris & Tom Zanoni.

Random Thoughts: I am so grateful to all of you UUCB Hospitality Ministry Volunteers, which includes, front door Greeters, Ushers, Coffee set-up, food providers, and Coffee clean-up, who make Sunday mornings “happen” for everyone else! Actually, being a Hospitality Volunteer is one of the easiest ways of making a personal contribution to UUCB — “Try It, you might Like It!” Whether you have willingly written your names down on the sign-up sheet, or I have “hunted you down” YOU are very much appreciated. Thank You!

With Love & Care, Barb
