Membership Matters – May 2023

Date

We honor members, friends, visitors

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with:
  • Karen Morgan shared that Maryanne Balassa, wife of John Balassa, member of the UU Fellowship, and resident of Fraiser Meadows died last month.
  • Signe Murray shared that April 2nd  was the anniversary of her dad, Joe Hawleys passing.  He died from COVID three years ago.  He was light, and the definition of unconditional love.
  • Sheryl Freeman has returned and looks forward to re-connecting with this community, after many years. She asked for kind thoughts for her husband’s diminishments as they both age, she is 75.
  • Sally Du Gar shared that Alan Davis had kidney surgery to remove a slow growth tumor.  He would like your healing thoughts and prayers.
  • The world lost two greats with totally different skills, Dame Edna’s creator Barry Humphries died in Sydney at 89. Dame Edna was one of Fred’s favorite entertainers, one year Kendall and her former husband gave us tickets, for Christmas, to an incredible live performance, in Denver.  And the amazing Harry Belafonte.  Besides an unbelievable voice he was a social activist extraordinaire!  His was my very first concert in Kansas City, MO many years ago.

Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to:
  • Gary and Babs Herrli’s grandson, Sylvan, turned one year old last month.
  • Great news! from Kate & Dave Weinstein, their son Josh just accepted a high school math teacher position at Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, CO. This position starts in the fall, though he has been working at the school in other capacities since November 2022.
  • After hospitalization, surgery, and recovery it is great seeing Rev. Barbara Molfese back in church on Sunday mornings!
  • Lois and Dan Anderson are back on Whidbey Island, WA until their return in the fall.  They join Senior Salon via Zoom so we know how they are doing while they are away.
  • Nancy and Bud Spear’s flew for the first time to Nova Scotia, Canada, avoiding their annual ten day road trip, and will return in October.  This is an annual event for both couples.
  • Extra special thanks to Jim Dimmick, and his fantastic crew who set-up, brought and made delicious vegetarian food, then cleaned up after a VERY successful, ENJOYABLE, and well attended Climate Ministry luncheon on April 23!
  • Our Beloved, longtime member Betty Skipp turns 95 on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
  • We sadly say goodbye to Deborah Berioli, our nine year Music Director — We miss her already, but we are excited for her new life in Minneapolis, MN with her partner, Adam.

Special Welcome to New Member:
  • Jennifer Catto who joined us on Sunday, April 30th.  We are pleased you have decided to share your spiritual journey, with us.
Random Thoughts:
Heard of a new rule called the Platinum Rule? — Treat others as they want to be treated!
We learned this during a recent training, as we prepare for our GA volunteer assignments.
A point of information to help and assist our ushers, in a meaningful way.  If you sit on the West side, by the windows, and are the last person in the row, please hold the collection basket, until the usher gets there.  This makes it so much easier for the ushers to circulate the baskets in the Hearth Room area. No need to pass the basket back.  Each usher takes a section so no need to pass the baskets across the aisle. This brings me to a second point — “Ushing” is a really easy way to get involved on Sunday morning. Please either sign up at the Welcome Table, or let Irene Kirschenbaum, our awesome Membership Coordinator know.  We recruited two teams last week for May, and we appreciate their YES!
Fred and Moi hosted the second “4X4 Dinner”, an idea which Rev. Schwartz brought to UUCB, and which is great fun.
A “4X4 Dinner” includes four long(er)-time members, and four new(er) members.  The hosts provide the main dish, and everyone else brings something to share.  Say YES, if you are asked to host, you won’t regret it! Or again, let Irene know if you are willing to be a host.
And finally, if you enjoy the coffee, after services — PLEASE sign up, or offer to set up and/or clean up.
Fellowship hour is not a right — it is a privilege!  Here is another easy way to volunteer, and get involved at your church.
Our thanks to the people who have been doing these important Sunday morning “jobs” time after time.
You are appreciated by Moi — by all of us.  Get in on all this appreciation, and say YES!
