School days, school days…August returns with LOTS going on at UUCB!

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with:    We are reminded that Daphne Lewin died one year ago, the first week of June.  Her daughter Wendy, who lives in England asked for us to remember her — how could we not?  Diana Maiden’s brother Ivan, had successful by-pass surgery the end of May. Doug Barr, a long ago member who has returned to church, has stage 4 cancer and has chosen to not have surgery or treatment.  Ginny Wight had a hip mishap in early June, but is back in church with her cheery smile. To the husband and family of Kirsten Farnsworth, one of our previous pianists, who died at 32 after living a valiant life with cancer.  Caitlin Moore, and family on the death of her father on June 13th in Cleveland OH. Continued concern for the children separated from their parents at the border. Reed Bailey had triple by-pass surgery on June 25th, and is recovering very well.  “From the horses, mouth before he left the hospital, getting better day by day. Walking a lot, lucky to be alive. Love Reed”. Lee Redfield, long-time member of UUCB (now BVUUF), was hospitalized the end of June at Longmont United for a heart valve problem.  Continue to offer Shirley Bulla all our love and energy. To me and my family on the death of one of my “Baby” Cousins, Jay Barnett who died July 11th. I was raised with thirteen very close cousins on my mother’s side. Jay died in Kansas after quadruple heart surgery at age 69.  Now we are nine.

Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to:  Whitney Wheeless & Jim Rowe who celebrated their 18th Wedding Anniversary on May 27th.  Sophie Hughes turned 18 on May 26th. Goodbye/Good Luck to Laura Upham & Aaron Gerber as they head to Connecticut for a new adventure where she will be attending graduate school.  Wendy Guiterrez, who we have companioned, along with her mother Mercedes, and sisters Kerry & Lupita for the past seven years, who received one of the Latina League scholarships, and will be attending Red Rocks College this fall.  Tom Denkenburger & Carina Wolf became the Denkenwolfs on June 9th. Krishna Pattisapu & Cole Hart became engaged the end of May. Oakley English Morley was born June 12th, weighing 7 lbs 7 oz. His very proud and happy parents are Gen Morley & Jason English.  Goodbye/Good Luck also to Melinda Roark & Ted Garrison who moved to Oregon, for her health, on July 2nd. Lauren Hinkle & Dan Tillberg are expecting their first child in January.

Random Thoughts:  My good news this month comes from GA, UUA General Assembly, which was held in KCMO.  I was born and raised in Kansas City until graduation from the Kansas City Art Institute.  The Friday night Service of the Living Tradition is always one of my favorite things to not miss at GA.  To me it is one of our “High Church” experiences where we honor our ministers through all stages of their ministry.  Preliminary Fellowship, Final Fellowship, and when they retire or die. Knowing Rev. Kelly Dignan when she was our Intern Minister, being part of the Search Committee who presented her to the board and congregation, and to see her receive her final Fellowship which takes three years as a minister was very exciting.  To share that happy event with Kelly, Pete, and the UUCB members who were in KCMO made the beautiful circle complete. Bob Evans captured the look of joy on Kelly’s face that said it all!

With Love & Care,
