Stewardship Update, Gratitude & Generosity
Gratitude & Generosity
Introducing Gratitude & Generosity, a new column where you can learn more about the recently formed UUCB Stewardship Council. Recommended by the Strategic Initiatives Council (Si!C) and nurtured by UUCB leadership, the Stewardship Council members are Catherine Marsh and Janet Evans (co-chairs) plus Bob Evans, Peter Ewing and Carol Teal.
This group met recently with Rev. Kelly, incoming Board President Toni Piwonka-Cole plus Si!C Chair, Mary Clough. We outlined the role of Stewardship in general, our long term structure and priorities for the 2018-2019 Church Year.
Wondering just what stewardship means? “The careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.” At a recent Pacific Western Region workshop, we learned about the role of a Stewardship Council in our own UUCB community. A key question was “How do we nurture and grow what we have to build the common good and make our own days glad?”
We’re excited to get started and, thanks to Catherine’s grant writing expertise, we are one of only ten congregations accepted into the UUA Pacific Western Region’s Generosity Initiative program! This multi-day immersive Phoenix workshop culminates with the development of a customized 3-year long range financial vision for our UUCB community.
I don’t know about you, but I’m grateful for our church and the foresight of our church leaders. The new Stewardship Council members look forward to sharing with you about our priorities for 2018-2019, as outlined by the Si!C.
With gratitude comes reflection, thinking broadly about generosity in our lives and in our congregation. This new Stewardship Council is an important step for our beloved community and a meaningful consideration of our long term financial future and goals.
