UUCB Community Garden 2017 was the sixth and most successful year, not only for production of vegetables, but also for the spirit of community felt by the gardeners and the recipients of our charitable contributions. In March we pledged to donate #50 of produce to charity this year. By season’s end we had given #184.8 of squash, kale, cucumbers, peppers and tomatillos to EFFA in Boulder, OUR in Longmont, San Juan del Centro and Sister Carmen.
Our crew of 8-12 gardeners planned, composted, tilled, planted, watered, weeded and harvested from March to October. In November we had our annual Harvest Dinner and promised to get back together by the end of January 2018 to begin the new season, which will be even better than the last one.
“The most noteworthy thing about gardeners is that they are always optimistic, always enterprising, and never satisfied. they always look forward to doing something better than they have ever done before” ~Vita Sackville-West
You may want to be a UUCB gardener too. Look for the notice of our first meeting next year.
