SUMMARY:Perspectives on the Whole
DESCRIPTION:Are borders helpful or a hindrance? Can we see beyond what divides us to what makes us whole? \n \nRev. Randy Spaulding is the pastor at Boulder Mennonite Church and a Community Minister at UUCB.  He received his MDiv at Yale Divinity School and has served congregations in Indiana\, Florida and Colorado\, and as an oncology chaplain in Connecticut.  He is married to his husband Gary Stephens and they live close to UUCB with their two Labs\, Pride and Justice.  Rev. Randy is the first openly gay male to be ordained in the Mennonite church\, and was one of the writers of a 2022 resolution that made Mennonite Church USA fully affirming of LGBTQ+ persons at the denominational level.

SUMMARY:UUCB Retreat
DESCRIPTION:AUGUST 9-11 at HIGHLANDS RETREAT CENTER\, ALLENSPARK \n[Update: Do you need to pay for your ticket? You can do so here: https://uucb.breezechms.com/give/online?fund_id=1874062] \nConnect Bravely at our all-church retreat. Registration is now open for the event at beautiful Highlands Camp and Retreat Center in Allenspark\, a 45-minute drive from Boulder. This year’s retreat features a full slate of kid programming\, a Lego-based plenary activity\, and pond canoeing and swimming\, along with old favorites for all ages: \n\nPuzzles\nSingalongs\nCrafts and art-making\nSinging\nMovement\, hiking\, and dancing\nThoughtful workshops \nA gorgeous location\nYour beloved church community\n\n  \nAccommodations \nA number of lodging options are available: retreat center rooms\, cabins\, tents\, and RV parking.  Rates are per-person and include meals.  \n  \nRetreat center: Rooms for 4 people with attached modern bathrooms and single beds\, with bedding and towels provided. . All beds are single beds with adequate spacing to allow unrelated adults some privacy (read: this is not a hotel room.) Some rooms feature pull-out couches and accommodate up to six people. We are encouraging folks who wish to stay at the retreat center to “bunk up” to maximize the space. Please indicate people you would be comfortable sharing a retreat-style room with. \n  \nCabin and tent lodgers need to bring their own bedding and towels. Cabins are in two styles: a rustic\, “cozier” cabin with a bathroom or a larger “bunkhouse”-style cabin that sleeps up to 12 per room. If you have a strong preference\, please indicate so in your form. \n  \nRVs are allowed but limited electrical hookups are available on a first-come first-serve basis. \n  \nGet in touch at UUCB.retreat@gmail.com f you need more information about special needs\, kids’ sleeping arrangements\, programming\, the event setting\, etc. We are happy to answer your questions. \n  \nRegister at uucbretreat.ticketspice.com/uucbretreat24 by July 15.   \n  \nSign up to volunteer to help out for the retreat here: https://forms.gle/SLzM3c98EJimkFn59  \nSign up to lead a workshop at the retreat here: https://forms.gle/zVsaEVFKcJWc1CBq8 \n  \nFAQs \nCan I have a room by myself in the retreat center? \nThe retreat center sleeping rooms are in the same building as the meeting rooms where most activities and meals take place. Unfortunately space in the retreat center is limited\, so we must encourage folks to “bunk up”. Most rooms are semi-divided so that 2 beds are separated by a bathroom\,providing  some privacy from other roommates. You can see more in the layout descriptions. \n  \nCan my party sleep in an RV and attend all events? What is the cost? \nYou may bring an RV and park onsite. RVs are allowed anywhere that is not disruptive to parking. \n  \nThe cost is too expensive for my budget; are scholarships available? \nYes; email UUCB.retreat@gmail.com before July 1. \n  \nWhere should we sleep with an infant or very small kids? \nWe don’t recommend tent camping with very young children as (it gets pretty cold at night even in August) but any of the other options can be accommodated. We suspect most parents with very small children would be most comfortable in the retreat center\, where full access to refrigerators\, bottles\, and all mealtimes will take place. Some cabins have closer parking than others for schlepping kid gear. Contact kerriwingert@gmail.com for more information about this; she took an infant in 2022. \n  \nWhat if I need an accommodation for a physical disability? \nWe want to help you participate to the fullest! The center has ramps\, elevators\, hearing assistance devices\, and high-quality microphones. Moreover\, it will be full of people who want to reduce any barriers to your participation. Please let us know how we can support you or your loved ones to attend fully. \n  \nCan I attend just Saturday? \nYes; send an email toUUCB.retreat@gmail.com There will be a charge of $36 for adults and $27 for kids 6-12 to cover meals. \n  \nCan I get a paper registration form? \nThese are available in the office. A check for payment is required to secure your registration if you are not registering online. \n  \nWill my special dietary needs be addressed?  \nYes. You can indicate your needs on the registration form and you can talk directly to the Highland Retreat Center staff in advance if you need special care with an allergen or sensitivity. Highlands has encouraged participants to contact them directly.  \n  \nCan I bring my own meals? \nYes; a refrigerator is available in the dining hall’s kitchen for you to bring a heatable meal to enjoy at mealtimes. Please label your food with your name and the date of the retreat. \n  \nCan I get a carpool? \nCarpool riders and drivers should meet at 4pm at UUCB on Friday August 9\, to return Sunday Aug 11 at approximately 2pm.

SUMMARY:Ouch!
DESCRIPTION:Relationships are hard.  Relationships in community can be harder still. When being invited into richer\, more vulnerable connections with one another\, hurts inevitably happen.  Finding our way back to real repair requires more than a simple apology.  In her book\, On Repentance and Repair: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World\, Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg explores the writings of the medieval philosopher Maimonides. Maimonides laid out a very specific process for moving from brokenness to repair — a process\, she says\, that could help untangle the most challenging of interpersonal struggles and international disputes. \n \nRev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry loves helping congregations thrive. She served congregations as a minister for 25 years\, including as the former minister of the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship in Lafayette\, CO. Currently\, she is bringing three passions together —  helping congregations develop a culture of generosity as a Stewardship for Us consultant\, advancing justice and compassion in Colorado as an organizer for Together CO\, and  building a community of embodied wisdom-seekers as a co-founder the Interplay CO region.

SUMMARY:Moved to Tears
DESCRIPTION:The irony of this age of e-connectivity is that people are more isolated than ever. Social fragmentation is on the rise\, just when we most need one another. In this service\, we’ll use a Buddhist story to explore the various ‘roles’ we humans play in troubled times\, and how essential our willingness to risk being vulnerable with one another is to our very survival. \n \nRev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry loves helping congregations thrive. She served congregations as a minister for 25 years\, including as the former minister of the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship in Lafayette\, CO. Currently\, she is bringing three passions together —  helping congregations develop a culture of generosity as a Stewardship for Us consultant\, advancing justice and compassion in Colorado as an organizer for Together CO\, and  building a community of embodied wisdom-seekers as a co-founder the Interplay CO region.\n\nShe and her husband Phil have two young adult children\, and live in Louisville\, CO. Rev. Lydia enjoys many practices that keep her aligned with the mystical power of Love\, including regular connection with nature\, Qigong\, social activism\, and dancing with the Interplay community. She enjoys cooking\, hiking\, engaging conversation\, playing cards and painting rocks. Rev. Lydia is most passionate about the individual and community transformation that is possible when people come together to create something none could have imagined alone.

SUMMARY:UUCB Summer Sundays: Ice Cream & Psychedelics
DESCRIPTION:Bring your questions and curiosity to UUCB Community Minister and practicing psychedelic guide and therapist Rev. Kristen Psaki. Also: Ice Cream! \n \nJoin Rev. Kristen\, UUCB Community Minister and practicing psychedelic guide and therapist\, for another round of “Coffee & Psychedelics.” Kristen will facilitate a conversation around safe\, sacred and legal psychedelic use in Colorado. We’ll explore the unfolding of the Natural Medicine Health Act\, which legalized five natural medicines in November\, 2022. We’ll also dig into some of the following: what is the difference between psychedelic therapy and plant medicine ceremony? What is the role of the church and people of faith and conscience in the psychedelic movement? Where is Indigenous reciprocity? Bring your questions and curiosity. \n  \nRev. Kristen Psaki is an affiliated community minister with UUCB. She is credentialed in Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy through the Center for Medicinal Mindfulness and assists in teaching this modality to psychotherapists\, clergy and chaplains with Psychedelic Sitters School and is an advocate for the presence of trained religious professionals in psychedelic therapy. Kristen is a lifelong seeker of the sacred\, trusts in the transformative power of Love and believes that all of us – need all of us – to be free. She currently finds deep spiritual nourishment through the earth-based practices of her ancestors and the guidance of spirit and song.

SUMMARY:10:00am Service - The Feels
DESCRIPTION:Joy. Rage. Love. Despair. Ecstasy. Hope. Anxiety. Shame. Grief. Attraction. Curious. Playful. Peace. \nEmotions are sneaky\, inefficient\, disruptive–they can pull us under or allow us to fly – and feelings are real. You have them\, and so does every single other person around you. So many of us have learned that emotions need to be denied or controlled – that emotions do not hold value or meaning. But what if just the opposite were true? Showing up in our bodies – the tightness in your stomach\, the heat in your palms\, the openness in your chest – emotions are some of our closest teachers waiting (and sometimes demanding) to be acknowledged. \n \nRev. Kristen Psaki is an affiliated community minister with UUCB. SUMMARY:10:00am Service - The Meaning of Allyship
DESCRIPTION:Every year during Pride Month\, the word ‘ally’ jumps to the forefront of our vocabulary. But what does an alliance actually mean? What does this relationship require from us? This Sunday\, join me in contemplating the places where love and social justice merge. Let’s celebrate Pride by committing ourselves to stand up for our many\, many siblings across all different identities. \n  \n \n  \nMy name is Nate (short for Nathaniel)\, I welcome any pronouns\, and I am so excited to be visiting UU Church of Boulder! I am a lifelong UU\, born and raised in Massachusetts\, and I’ve spent the past three years in Denver\, Colorado while I attend seminary.
