DESCRIPTION:The UUCB Climate Action Ministry (CAM) is focused on enacting justice by educating our members and the community on the impacts of climate change and its solutions\, and by providing opportunities for our members and friends to act to solve it. Each year\, we plan a cycle of activities which might include advocacy and direct action\, education for the congregation and community\, and tools to make tangible change. \nWe meet monthly\, August – May\, usually the fourth Wednesday of each month. DESCRIPTION:Our new music director Dr. Emily Koriath invites newcomer and longtime singers alike to a choir retreat Saturday\, February 17 from 11-1. This will give us a chance to spend some time together outside the weekly bustle of rehearsals and services\, get to know each other\, and covenant together around these next few months. This is a fantastic time to invite those friends who have been thinking about choir but haven’t yet made the leap! It will be a fresh start for all of us.\n\n(Note that after the service on Feb 4\, the choir will have a break from rehearsal until February 22. This will give us two good rehearsals plus the retreat before our first service together on Sunday\, March 3.)

SUMMARY:Spiritual Care for Climate Distress
DESCRIPTION:The climate crisis is an everything crisis. It is an environmental crisis\, an infrastructure crisis\, a political\, social\, and economic crisis. It’s a health crisis\, and it has become an emotional and spiritual crisis. \nThere are different ways of describing what people might be experiencing\, including eco-anxiety\, eco-guilt\, eco-dread\, eco-despair\, eco-depression\, eco-grief\, solastalgia\, and biospheric concern. Climate Anxiety will soon be named as a mental health disorder in the DSM. Among the impacts of this distress is a feeling of paralysis or stuckness. We can become immobilized and unmotivated to act for climate justice. \nThere is no quick fix\, and yet research shows that gathering in community to companion one another is a primary strategy for addressing this distress. Churches are perfectly situated to do this. When we metabolize our feelings together\, we prevent becoming paralyzed.
