September Update on Expansion Project

ANNEXATION TO THE CITY OF BOULDER

As mentioned in the last edition of Expansion News, Boulder County and the City of Boulder have mandated that we annex into Boulder. In August, we wrote:

“After reviewing the special use review that we submitted to Boulder County in March 2026, the county referred our project to the City of Boulder‘s Planning Department in late July and deferred to the City’s judgment. The City informed us that a project of our size would automatically trigger annexation in alignment with the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan (under the category of “intensification of use”). Therefore, we will have to annex into the city of Boulder for our project to move forward.”

On Tuesday, September 8, our Annexation Team, in conjunction with the UUCB Board of Trustees, Rodwin Architecture and advice from our land-use lawyer, submitted our Annexation application to the City of Boulder Planning Department. They have advised us that their initial response will be delivered in three to four weeks.

The application and required attachments were prepared by our Annexation Team, including Bill Walters, Tasha Hill, Joe Polman and Whitney Wheeless. Candice Bautista will be joining the team for the next phase of annexation activities. Members of the Building Design Team, the Board, and Reverend David were also actively involved in the annexation conversations.

CONGREGATIONAL FORUMS

September 27th, after each church service in the Earth Room

Informational forums will be held on Sunday, September 27 at 10:00 am in the Emerson Room and 12:15 pm in the Earth Room. These forums will give members of the congregation an opportunity to learn about Annexation and the path going forward. Members of the Annexation Team and the Board will be there to answer your questions.
