Mission & Vision

Our mission is simple:

to Connect Bravely, Deepen Spiritually,

Embody Justice, and Always Love.

It’s the center of the church and the point of what we do. We live it out in different ways, and it looks different through different seasons of life, but at our core, this is our work as individuals and as a community.

It’s straightforward to say. It takes a lifetime to live into.

When we say “connect bravely, deepen spiritually, embody justice, and always love,” what we mean is that this community is inviting you into a way of life — a way of being in the world that may transform you – and that path is to grow your soul and help to heal the world, in community.

As one Unitarian Universalist minister observes: Many of us were once, too, seeking for something larger than ourselves to which we could belong: a sense of rootedness to hold us as we create meaning together. We do that well here—though not perfectly because in this congregation, we strive not for perfection but for authenticity and connection.

Whether you arrive here for the very first time, or for the thousandth time, we hope that you’ll find questions that stretch you, people to befriend you, and liberal religious values that challenge you to join us in loving boldly, living justly, and welcoming radically.

The film critic Roger Ebert likes to say that thing which matters in a movie isn’t what the movie is about, but how the movie is about it. That’s true of church, too, and folks at UUCB talk and plan and work as much for how we are about being a church as what we’re doing as a church.
