Food Drive for the Boulder County AIDS Project

Date

It’s time again for our biennial Food and Supplies Drive for the food and supplies pantry of the Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP). For the next four Sundays, February 16 through March 9, there will be baskets in the front hall for your donations of non-perishable food and household and personal supplies. BCAP assists people living with HIV in Boulder and Broomfield Counties and nearby mountain communities. They provide social workers to help people find medical and legal aid, find housing, and any other needs. They provide free AIDS testing and other services. BCAP also provides educational programs to these communities to help prevent the spread of HIV. Items from the pantry are provided to low-income clients at no charge.

Items needed are canned/jarred/packaged foods, particularly containing protein, such as tuna and peanut butter. Also needed are soups, canned meats, chili, pasta and pasta sauce, cereals, coffee, and coffee creamer. Household and personal supplies such as soaps, detergents, toilet paper, toothpaste, and shampoo are also needed. BCAP adds fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy, and meat to the pantry. Social workers determine how many items a low-income client may have each month, depending on the size of their family and health needs.

UUCB is member of the Interfaith AIDS Coalition(IAC) which works to help BCAP in many ways, such as volunteering, publiciizing events, fundraising, and planning a memorial program to remember those we have lost to HIV-related causes. Holding food and supplies drives are part of our participation in IAC. Our second drive will be in Juy. Judy Hunter and Dianne Ewing are our representatives in the IAC.
