The mission of the Racial Justice Ministry Team (RJMT) is to activate our UUCB congregation to participate in events, actions and education with community partners who are doing effective work for racial justice. We strive to be accountable to our community partners of color and root our work through relationship-building among and beyond our UUCB members. The RJMT hopes to embody our church mission to Connect Bravely, Deepen Spiritually, Embody Justice and Always Love.
We host book discussions, sometimes with other congregations. We attend performing arts events such as concerts by all-black symphonies, movies about indigenous women, and a local Juneteenth celebration. We promote direct action by hosting tables during coffee hour.
Consistent with our mission, we partner with organizations such as the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), SURJ (Standing Up for Racial Justice), and Earthjustice. As much as possible, we let organizations led by BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) guide us in how to support them.
