Rev. David Schwartz to Speak at AIDS Candlelight Memorial

Date

Rev. David will speak at the 41st Annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial program in Boulder at the First United Methodist Church of Boulder at 6:15pm on Sunday, May 19th. It will be hosted by the Interfaith AIDS Coalition (IAC) of Boulder County and the Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP). UUCB is a member congregation of the IAC which works  with BCAP to assist local people  living with HIV and to provide education to help prevent further spread of HIV/AIDS. This Sunday Candlelight Memorial programs will be held around the world to remember local people lost to HIV/AIDS-related causes. UUCB reps to IAC, Judy Hunter and Dianne Ewing, will participate in the local Candlelight Memorial.

This event is open to the public. The public is invited to arrive at the covered porch of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC), located at 1421 Spruce Street, Boulder 80302, between 6 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The program will begin shortly afterward. The program includes live music, a short reflection by Rev. David Schwartz, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder, and the reading of names of people who lived  with HIV who have died. Musicians for the program include Susan Conceicao, harpist and former UUCB member; Laurie Dameron, local singer/guitarist; Matt Nicodemus, local singer/guitarist; and Alex Sierra, local opera singer and voice teacher. The program begins at the First United Methodist Church and then people walk to the BCAP House on 14th Street where the program continues. People attending then walk silently to the courthouse on the Boulder Mall, where the program continues. Finally, the group walks back to the First United Methodist Church where Rev. David will speak and the program will conclude with more music and the final reading of names.
