Visioning III … a Great Success!

Date

Welcome to Expansion News – the source for updates on our building project!

The Sanctuary was packed for the Visioning III session on May 31st!  Rodwin Architecture presented their third iteration of possibilities for our UUCB expansion to more than 100 people.

At the meeting, Rodwin provided more information about the water options, presenting a more affordable solution than the initially proposed annexation fees that the City of Boulder had outlined.

The current designs used input from our congregation, feedback from the Expansion Teams and guidelines outlined by the Board of Trustees.  The big change from prior plans is moving the construction out of the floodplain, yet still allowing for a phased approach, permitting us to continue meeting in our space during the initial construction.  The cost estimate for the construction is targeted at around $5 million.

The primary plans include a 275-seat sanctuary on the west side of our building with an expansive lobby entrance and mezzanine west of the current entrance.

The lobby will have entrances on both the north and south sides. The floor of the current Earth Room (sanctuary) will be leveled and will serve as our major gathering area off the lobby.

From the Earth Room gathering place, doors to a back patio will lead to a more accessible playground and the quiet Meditation Garden behind our current building and next to the creek. The parking lot will be extended and curve around to the east along unused playground area of today.

The first steps will include building the new sanctuary, lobby, kitchen, expanded bathrooms, coat closet and storage. As explained, this plan allows us to remain in our current building for Services, Coffee Hour and Religious Education during the initial construction.

As the meeting ended, the participants left the visioning session excited about what is ahead!

Check out the Expansion News bulletin board in the Sky Room to see the plans!  Every Sunday after Sunday service, members of the Expansion Project will be on hand to talk about possibilities, answer questions, and record suggestions that you may have.
