Critical Need Volunteer Positions

Date

Dear Congregation,

Our Community relies on a large volunteer force to make everything run smoothly. These are some current critical needs in our community. If you are interested in any of these positions or would like more information please contact Robin Miller at robin.elisabeth@gmail.com.

Pledge Drive Co-Chair – Our pledge drive co-chairs manage the pledge drive. The pledge drive generates the largest portion of our annual budget. Scharmin Dorostkar is staying on as co-chair, but she would like a partner who is willing to be out in front of the congregation for the progress updates. Planning starts in December for the March drive. Planning and Responsibily protocols are in place, so no need to fear reinventing the wheel. A critical need!

Treasurer – One of the most important volunteer positions in the church! Main duties include:

  • Provide fiscal oversight and keep fiscal responsibility for the church
  • Hold monthly Finance Council meetings (2 hours per month)
  • Approve weekly Billpay requests from the bookkeeper (along with reviewing associated receipts and expense reports) – 20 minutes / week
  • Respond to staff and member emails relating to finances (about 1 per weekday on average)
  • Prepare the annual budget and iterate on it with the Board (~20 hours)
  • Prepare slides for the congregation relating to the budget (~5 hours)
  • Hold three Budget Forums before the annual meeting and address feedback
  • Present the budget at the annual meeting
  • Work on various initiatives as determined by the Board and Finance Council (e.g., financial audits, update operating procedures, etc)

Buildings and Grounds – This position’s duties have changed radically since we hired a maintenance staff person. The buildings and grounds chair will be coordinating two all-church work days in Fall and Spring (in coordination with Garden’s Chairs) to clean, maintain and generally spruce the church grounds. In addition, Rev David is envisioning working with Buildings and Grounds to create a longer term plan to address maintenance/replacement of systems as they age/are damaged to help with financial planning.

Gardens Landscape – Coordinates all church work days with Buildings and Grounds to clean and spruce the outdoor space. Organizes plantings/landscape and leads the Landscape team in maintaining and visioning for the outdoor space.

Share our Plate – Eight out of 12 months a year, UUCB donates a portion of Sundays’ offering plates to chosen non-profit organizations, voted on by the congregation, at the annual meeting. Caitlin Moore has been managing this whole process for the last several years, but she is moving and we need someone to step in to manage this process. For this year, the chair will coordinate with the points of contact (church members who nominated them) in Nov and Jan – May. Everything (emails, SOPs, example ballots, and nomination forms) are ready to copy, edit,  and send out. In the middle of April, SOP solicits nominations for the next year’s recipients. They are collected and voted on at the annual meeting in May. The Share our Plate Chair collects the votes and announces the winners.

All Church Retreat -The next All Church Retreat is coming up in August 2024 and we need someone to chair this committee. Starting at the beginning of 2024, the chair gathers the committee to start planning. As the retreat nears, the chair makes sure the venue is secured, workshops and activities are planned and registration happens. Mary Clough, who has headed this team for over a decade, is stepping down. She will be at the Opportunities fair on October 1st to answer any questions about the retreat.

Again, if you are interested in any of these positions or would like more information please contact Robin Miller at robin.elisabeth@gmail.com.
