Membership Matters – July 2023

Date

We honor members, friends, visitors

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with:
  • Strider, former member, who had his only form of transportation stolen, his E-bike.  Due to the great generosity of the local community, he now has a new electric bike with lights, horn, paniers, etc. — He is back in business.
  • Rev. Nan Hobart, and family on the death last month, in Chicago, of Rev. James (Jim) Hobart.  Jim and Nan were co-ministers at 1st Unitarian Church in Denver.  I had the pleasure of attending a UU Meadville Winter Institute in Madison WI in the 70’s where I met Jim, when I was the DRE at First Universalist in South Denver.  We were looking forward to seeing him at General Assembly.  Rev. Schwartz shared that Jim did the UU naming ceremony for both Jay & Matthew, his children.
You can send messages to Nan at nanhobart@gmail.com or 5201 S Ingleside Ave, Chicago IL  60615
  • Betty Skipp spent four days in the hospital for a still unknown cause.  She is now at home.  Text Jean LaDue with well wishes.
  • Rebecca Carnarius had a paper due, about the “Tower of Babel”.
  • Sally Rickert, longtime member, is now living in Tudor Skilled Living in Longmont.  She turned 83 on June 23rd.
  • For Michael and Ben who lost their dads this week, and for all those, for whom it was their first Father’s Day without a dad.
  • Kathleen Newton’s brother, Rollen Powell died, June 9th in El Paso, TX at age 83.
  • It is hard to believe, but Kendall Richards died a year ago July 8th at age 54.
Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to:
  • Eliot Rowe turned 21 on June 4th, and was celebrating in Indiana, where he goes to college. The Wheeless/Rowe group celebrated three “Turning Eighty” birthdays, all at once this month. Mary’s (Jim’s Mother) in June, Barry’s (Whitney’s Dad) is in July, and John’s (Jim’s Dad) is in October.
  • Nina Peterson’s niece had a baby last month.
  • On her birthday Chris Zanoni and her grandson ran the Boulder Bolder.
  • Sally Du Gar’s stepsister has cancer.
  • Signe Hawley-Murray welcomed baby girl Odessa Murray 4 1/2 months ago.  Big sister Tallulah is a great helper.
  • Rev. Teri Schwartz has a new exciting job.  Due to the pandemic, and having new ways of “doing” church she is the Remote Minister for the Juneau Alaska congregation.  She will spend a week with them in September, and finish up with a week in May.  The rest of her time will be on Zoom to her new congregation!  Because of technology we can reach out to all, or many, of our UU congregants!
  • Thank you to Bob & Janet Evans, who drove to and from Pittsburgh, PA, and were able to transport our UUCB banner easily.

Random Thoughts:   An interesting usher fact.  If you are sitting on the end, in the last row on the window (West) side please hold the basket for the usher.  In the back area each of the two ushers cover one half of those seated.  No need to pass the basket across the aisle.  Thank you so much.

Everyone has returned safely from 2023 UUA General Assembly.  Come to the service on August 13th, to hear all about what ten of us learned. We had the largest group attending from UUCB in years, which made for great get togethers.  We were:  Sally Du Gar & Alan Davis, Janet & Bob Evans, Caitlin Moore & Will Kropp, Mary Pierce, Carol Teal, Barb Richards & Fred Cole, and Rev. David Schwartz!  We shared two meals, one with former members, Barb Goldworm & Karen Blackwell now from the Key West, FL UU Congregation.  We had one first time attendee, and five volunteers.  There were 2300+ “in person”, and almost 1400 attendees, “on line”. GA 2024 will be all “on-line”. GA 2025 is scheduled for Baltimore, MD.
With Love.Care.Hugs.Energy💕
