Membership Matters – June 2023

Date

We honor members, friends, visitors

Our thoughts and good wishes continue to be with:
  • The family of a former member in the 70’s-90s, Kathryn Long Roberts who died at age 78 on April 30th.
  • We note the passing of Rosemary Coleman, member at Cairn Christian Church, and steadfast volunteer with Sanctuary Now!
  • Jeff, Debbie and the Davies Family on the death of Jeff’s Mother, Charline who died peacefully on Friday morning, May 26.  She was 95.
Congratulations, Good Luck, Blessings, and Thanks to:
  • Kaitlin & Billie Abbitt have opened a Lego shop in Old Town Marketplace, Longmont called Brickscape Cafe.  There was a great article in the electronic edition of the Daily Camera, May 30, 2023. The article included pictures of both of our members.
  • Former member of UUCB, and Sanctuary NOW, Mary Jo Highland graduated, after only three years, from Denver University’s School of Law, on May 20, 2023.  Working with our Sanctuary NOW! ministry, and meeting Ingrid, Bryant, Anibal, and Elizabeth was the reason she decided to go to Law School.  She received a full scholarship!  She is scheduled to take the bar exam on July 25 and 26th.   She plans to apply to immigration firms in Boulder County who focus on removal (deportation) defenses.  We are very proud of her, and happy for her!!
  • Hilton and Jenny Fitt-Peaster returned from Long Island where they attended the Hofstra University Commencement Ceremony.  Their granddaughter, Jade Fitt, received her Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies Bachelor of Science Degree.   In 1/1/2 years she will complete her MS and Physician Assistant White Coat Ceremony. She graduated Cum Laude and they are very proud of her.
  • We know that spring brings the birth of new baby animals, but we have done much better with the birth last month of two UUCB babies, and two proud big brothers.  Natalie Dellinger and Adam Hise are the parents of Teagan Hise-Dellinger.  Her big brother is Bridger.  Elizabeth Hannon and Jon Todd are the parents of Logan, and his big brother is Callum.  Everyone is doing fine. The dads have been bringing the boys to church, for their Religious Education classes.
  • Very large Thank You to our staff plus Rachel Alba’s parents for the incredible pancake breakfast. They provided the Congregation to say thanks to us for a successful church year.  What an undertaking.  So delicious, and so well attended, and appreciated by all!  Not only are they talented, they are kind, caring, and thoughtful!
Special Welcome to New Members:
We are pleased that Kenny Breckenridge, Micheline & Phil Burger, Betsy Cofer-Shabica, Diane Curlette (rejoined), and Becky Root have joined in May and June.  As we say at the Welcome Table on Sunday mornings, “…may we welcome you warmly?”!  A quote found in a Dove chocolate, on Sunday…”Your vibe attracts your tribe!” May we keep our vibes attracting our great new members.   Please continue to make our visitors feel welcome.   For those who do not know “us” see the photo below.
Random Thoughts:
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder is oh so blessed.  Why do you ask?  For many reasons, but I wish to speak to our incredible staff, and their musical talents.  Sam Henderson arrived and along with his incredible Office Administrative skills, his professional music gifts are off the charts.  Besides his beautiful voice he is currently making sure we have music direction on Sunday mornings.  Next we hired Irene Kirschenbaum, as our Membership Coordinator, and who knew?, but now we all do! after Flower Sunday (5/21) that she also has a beautiful voice. Recently we hired Rachel Alba for Director of Religious Education, and she too, came with her own musical talent.  Is this a requisite for getting hired at UUCB?  No I think not — but it is extra “special sauce” bringing joy, and a benefit for all of us.
I would add that Revs. David & Teri Schwartz also sing (if you ever watched their video from the Chicago church you would know this, and Teri also plays the piano.)  Teri, along with Rev. Randy Spalding, two of our Affiliated Ministers not only sing, but Randy has taught vocal lessons.  I do not know about Rev. Kirstin Psaki & Rev. Jeremy Nickel, our other two Affiliated Ministers, but chances are they may well have a talent we do not know about — yet.  Ministers tend to sing very well for some reason.  As for Moi, I sing best when standing next to someone who does sing well, but I LOVE all of our music, and the Chancel Cats are never to be missed.
Ten of us, plus Rev. David Schwartz are off to UUA General Assembly, June 21-25, in Pittsburgh, PA where we will be singing with at least 2500 UUs this year, and that is a “high” to behold!
